2006년에는 심해무인 잠수정인 해미래를 개발하는데 성공하였다. 해미래는 해저 6,000미터까지 잠수가 가능한 무인 잠수정으로 미국, 프랑스, 일본에 이어 세계 네 번째로 개발에 성공한 것이다. 해미래는 로봇 팔과 각종 계측장비, 수중카메라 등 최첨단 장비를 장착하고 있으며, 길이 3.3m, 폭 1.8m, 높이 2.2m로, 무게가 3.2t에 달하고 시속 1.5노트의 속도로 운항이 가능하다. 특히 전우ㆍ좌우ㆍ상하로 움직일 수 있는 전동추진기를 통해 ±5m 오차범위에서 목표물을 자유롭게 탐지, 추적할 수 있는 위치추적장치를 장착하고 있다.

In 2006, Korea succeeded in developing a deep-sea remotely operated vehicle 'the Haemirae'. 'the Haemirae' is an unmanned deep-sea vehicle which is submersible as deep as 6,000 meters, and Korea is the 4th to succeed in developing it in the world, following the US, France, and Japan. 'the Haemirae' is equipped with hi-tech equipment, such as robotic arms, all sorts of measuring equipment, an underwater camera, etc. It is 3.3m in length, 1.8m in width, and 2.2m in height with 3.2 tons in weight, and can navigate at a speed of 1.5 knots per hours. Particularly, through the powered propeller which can move up & back, left & right, and above and below, 'the Haemirae' is equipped with the position device that can freely detect and trace a target within the error range of ±5m.
