Vasco da Gama(1469~1524) set out for a voyage in 1497 by departing from Lisbon, with the assistance of Bartolomeu Dias, passed by Cape of Good Hopes and pioneered the sea routes to the Indian Ocean, getting to Calicut.
Gama heralded the full-scale opening of the grand voyage era while making profits of more than 60 times his investment.
