2012년 6월 23일 5천만 번째 신생아가 탄생하면서 우리나라는 20-50클럽에 가입하게 되었다. 20-50클럽이란 국내총생산(GDP)이 2만달러 이상이고 전체 인구가 5천만 명이 넘는 국가에게만 붙는 타이틀로 대한민국이 본격적인 선진국 대열에 들어섰다는 것을 뜻한다.

국제사회에서 통상적으로 인구 5천만 명 이상 국가를 대국, 1인당 국민소득 2만달러 이상을 부국으로 인정하는데 1987년 일본이 첫 번째로 20-50클럽이 된 후 1988년 미국, 1990년 프랑스와 이탈리아, 1991년 독일, 1996년 영국에 이어 우리나라 2012년 GDP 23,680달러에 총인구 5000만 명이 넘어 20-50클럽의 7번째 주인공이 된 것이다.

With the 50,000,000th birth of a new-born infant on June 23, 2012, Korea could join the 20-50 Club. The 20-50 Club is the title that can be given to a country whose GDP is more than 20,000 dollars with the population of over 50,000,000, which means Korea enters the rank of the advanced country in earnest.

International society usually acknowledges a country whose population is over 50,000,000 as a great power, and more than 20,000 dollars in per capita GDP. After Japan became the first member country of the 20-50 Club in 1987, Korea becomes the 7th member country of the 20-50 Club as it achieved 23,680 dollars in per capita GDP with the population of over 50,000,000, following the USA in 1988, France and Italy in 1990, Germany in 1991, and the United Kingdom in 1996.
