1945년 2월과 4월에는 태평양에서 일본으로 향하는 관문인 이오지마硫黃島와 오키나와沖縄 해전에서도 미국이 승리하며, 일본 본토 공습을 위한 전략적 요충지를 차지하게 되었다. 그러나 이 과정에서 미군 또한 막대한 피해를 입었는데 이오지마 상륙작전 결과 총 11만 명이 참전한 미군 중 사상자가 26,038명 발생했으며, 이중 6,821명이 전사하였으며, 일본군 또한 막대한 피를 입어 22,785명 중 21,570명이 죽음을 맞았으며 216명이 포로가 되고 하였다.

뒤이어 4월 1일부터 6월 23일까지 83일간이나 계속된 오키나와해전은 태평양전쟁의 종지부를 찍은 해전으로 태평양 전쟁 중 일본 영해에서 벌어진 유일한 전투이기도 했다. 일본은 자살특공대를 투입하는 등 저항하였으나 일본군 사상자 10만 2천명 중 4만 7천명이 전사하였고 미군 또한 1만2천여명이 전사하는 피해를 입었다. 특히 이 전투에서는 일본군에 의해 강제 동원된 오키나와 주민 약 12만 명이 사망하기도 했다.

이 두 해전을 끝으로 미국은 1945년 8월 6일 히로시마와 8월 9일 나가사키에 대한 원자폭탄 투하를 결정하고 그 위력에 일본은 무조건 항복하게 된다. 이로써 미국은 태평양시대를 열며, 세계 유일의 초강대국으로 발전을 거듭하여 오늘에 이르고 있다. 이 전쟁의 결과로 우리는 8월 15일 광복을 맞이하게 되었다.

The sea battle of Okinawa following the Iwo Jima combat, which lasted as many as 83 days from April 1 to June 23, was the sea battle which put a stop to the Pacific War, and this battle was the only one that was carried out in Japan's territorial waters after the outbreak of the war. Japan resisted by putting in a suicide commando, but 47,000 soldiers out of 102,000 Japanese armed forces were killed in the war, and 12,000 US armed soldiers were also killed. Particularly, in this combat, about 120 thousand residents of Okinawa, who were forcibly mobilized to this war by Japanese armed forces, also met their death.

With these two sea battles as a final, the USA decided to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, and on Nagasaki on August 9, 1945, and Japan came to surrender unconditionally suppressed by the force. By this, America has continued its development into the world's only superpower to this time while opening up the Era of the Pacific. As a result of this war, Korea came to National Liberation.
